Services

Here is a list of services we provide

Multidisciplinary heart valve care

Instead of having patients coordinate appointments with several doctors at multiple locations over different days we coordinate the multidisciplinary care around the patient. If you are suffering from aortic stenosis when you make an appointment in our multidisciplinary valve clinic you will have your CT scan, transthoracic echo, an informational visit with our nurse navigator, a meeting with our cardiologists and cardiac surgeons -- all in the same room. We come to you. This approach delivers the best in class efficient care as well as minimizing an already stressful experience for the patient and his/her family.

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)

  • Minimally invasive vein harvesting
  • Multiple arterial grafts
  • Hybrid revascularization
  • Off Pump CABG

Dr. Sheridan authored a patient centric book about CABG surgery as well as spearheading several National Institute of Health sponsored clinical trials on the utility of CABG surgery in the elderly and other vulnerable populations. Our team is both a proponent and early adopter of minimally invasive vein harvesting --offering enhanced/quicker recovery.

Surgical aortic valve replacement (minimally invasive)

Through a small incision we are able to surgically replace the aortic valve.

Mitral valve repair (percutaneous with MitraClip)

Through a small incision we are able to surgically replace the aortic valve.

Mitral valve repair (minimally invasive)

Mitral valve replacement (minimally invasive)

Tricuspid valve repair (minimally invasive)

Transcatheter (or percutaneous) aortic valve replacement (TAVR)

The "Volume Quality" relationship is a well understood phenomenon that is born out of all of the major quality metrics for the procedures we perform. As indications grow, patients have gained more access, and this feedback loop contributes to a skyrocketing volume. TAVR, as an example, has enjoyed significant year over year growth in our program, allowing us to innovate, refine, and continue to offer even more services to our patients.

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement volume

Our in hospital all cause mortality is more than 50% lower than the national average despite a high risk patient population. Beyond the care we take to perform the best procedure possible, we have a team that includes critical care, vascular surgery, advanced heart failure, neuro critical care, and electrophysiologists who back us up. We know from experience that the “ability to rescue” makes all the difference in the world.

Mechanical heart support with a left ventricular assist device (LVAD)

If you suffer from progressive weakening of the heart and transplant is not an option then lifetime support with an implantable left ventricular assist device is the solution. It allows you to resume a quality of life that is a faint memory today. We utilize state of the art technology with the Heart Mate 3 LVAD support system. This wonderful technology has “proven” to be the best device available to patients today.

Heart Transplantation

Our experienced multidisciplinary heart transplant team works 24/7/365 to provide critical and timely transplant care for those who need it the most. Our dedication has achieved outcomes second to none in the SF bay area with 100% 1 year survival and shortest time from listing to transplant. Don't take our word for it -- compare programs through the Scientific Registry of Transplant Registries - a federal government program that administers over all transplant programs in the US. We invite you to compare our outcomes on the federally sponsored website for transplantation.

Access to innovative restricted technology through national clinical trials

Given our uniquely large pool of talented physicians we garner early access to state of the art clinical trials in cardiovascular medicine and procedures. These trials include early TAVR and feasibility of percutaneous mitral valve replacement.

Low Risk Transcatheter aortic valve replacement

We are the only site in Northern California participating in the PARTNER 3 (P3) Continued Access Protocol. On the basis of the early safety data from P3 the FDA has allowed a small group of clinical sites to offer TAVR to low risk patients in a non randomized fashion. Patients are evaluated in our clinic by our heart team and if anatomically appropriate and interested in TAVR we now can offer this to all comers. Bicuspids included. Our P3 clinical trial results were presented at ACC in March of 2019.

Transcatheter mitral valve replacement

We are excited to be able to offer access to the first and only transeptal transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) on the planet. We are one of two sites in the state of California participating in this early feasibility clinical trial. Basic inclusion criteria are >/= 3+ MR, high surgical risk, EF > 30% and NYHA >/= Class 2.
